Is ‘Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning’ the Last Movie of the Franchise?

Tom Cruise is back in action for another 'Mission: Impossible' film, but is this his final time as Ethan Hunt?

Tom Cruise is back in action to take on another nearly impossible task in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Since the film’s title was initially Dead Reckoning: Part Two, fans wondered if the switch to “final reckoning” indicated that it could be the last Mission: Impossible installment. The full trailer, which aired during the February 2025 Super Bowl, teased that this could be “one last time” with the Impossible Mission Force. So, is it true — is MI8 the last movie of the franchise?

While the word “final” suggests this may be Ethan Hunt’s (Cruise’s character) last mission, it’s still unclear whether this will be the final film in the franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount wanted to promote the film as the “final” chapter to boost engagement. However, the trailer features Tom asking the others of the IMF to join him “one last time.”

When asked if the film marks his final turn as Ethan Hunt, Cruise simply said, “I’d rather just people see it and enjoy.”

As one of Hollywood’s most accomplished stuntmen, Tom has performed some of the most dangerous stunts in cinematic history while filming the MI movies. For the eighth installment, the actor told Empire he “passed out” a few times while filming a scene hanging on the wing of a 20th century Boeing Stearman biplane. That sequence was shot 10,000 feet in the air.

Halle Bailey gets sole custody of son Halo after restraining order against ex DDG over alleged abuse

Halle Bailey has gained sole custody of her son, Halo, following a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, DDG, for alleged abuse.

Halle Bailey has been granted the sole physical and legal custody of her 16-month-old son, Halo, after filing for a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend DDG, Page Six reported. On Tuesday, the Little Mermaid star sought sole custody of her child, alleging that the rapper had attacked her several times following their October 2024 breakup.
Bailey requested that she maintain sole custody of Halo, whom she shares with DDG, born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr, in the future. In the court documents obtained by the outlet, the 25-year-old explained that she filed the restraining order without giving notice because she “was afraid that the violence would reoccur.”
The filing added that Bailey feared “the other party would take the children out of the area” before the order could be granted. Meanwhile, the Color Purple star alleged in her restraining order filing that “Daryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me. I am seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse,” per AP.

The Latest: Cassie now faces cross-examination after exposing Diddy's violence

NEW YORK — The R&B singer Cassie is facing cross-examination Thursday after two days of testimony recounting tumultuous details of life with her ex-boyfriend, Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Prosecutors allege Combs used his fame and fortune to orchestrate an empire of exploitation, coercing women into abusive sex parties. His lawyers argue that all the sexual acts were consensual, and although he could be violent, he never veered into sex trafficking and racketeering.

Combs’ team of seven attorneys is led by New York lawyer Marc Agnifilo and also includes Atlanta attorney Brian Steel, who represented Young Thug in a lengthy trial before the rapper pleaded guilty to gang, drug and gun charges.

Here's the latest:

The cross examination of Cassie will soon be underway in Manhattan federal court. Defense lawyers say they’ll be scrutinizing how infidelity fueled the combustible nearly 11-year relationship between the R&B singer and the music mogul who controlled her career.
